Initial planning tools

 Mind Map: 

Advantages - enables meaningful learning, helps memorise, makes a complex issue easier to understand.

Disadvantages - takes longer than regular note taking, can get busy and not look organised, can be confusing if never made one before, lacks data, doesn’t plan your time.  

Mood Board: 

Advantages - helps establish the basics, shows initial ideas, collaboration is easier, gives a clear image, let’s us see font style, can show themes, easy to make, universally understood.

Disadvantages - may look different from what the client wanted, time consuming, not very organised, might not be specific enough for the client, might not look professional, doesn’t plan your time.

Blue-sky Thinking:

Advantages - no limitations, influenced business decisions, you can use everyone's ideas who are in the group, saves time, have a lot of dead, ensign rolls.

Disadvantages - not organised, sometimes you might not have any ideas, might not be detailed enough for the client, could be repetitive, won’t have a clear path at the end.

SWOT Analysis:

Advantages - detailed, cheap, organised, helps create contingency plans.

Disadvantages - time consuming, boring, too-much structure leads to poor decision making, new threats could come up on the way.
